Highland Park man charged in string of salon burglaries

Authorities have charged a Highland Park man they say is behind a string of salon burglaries in northern Illinois.

Alan Konwinski, 26, was stopped and arrested at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in Northbrook for driving with a suspended license, authorities said.

He was taken to the Northbrook Police Department, where he admitted to his involvement in some of the burglaries, officials said.

In all, there have been 70 burglaries at hair and nail salons since August 2015, authorities said. Sixteen were in Chicago. The other burglaries occurred in 31 suburbs scattered throughout DuPage, Lake and Cook counties.

At the time of his arrest, Konwinski was wearing the same hooded sweatshirt police saw on surveillance video of the robberies, authorities said.

Konwinski has been charged with five counts of burglary. Northbrook police said bail has been set at $51,000. Konwinski must post 10 percent to be released.

Officials are still investigating.
