Streamwood man charged with fifth DUI

A Streamwood man with four DUI convictions dating back to 1986 was ordered held on $75,000 bail Friday on charges he drove drunk Thursday morning.

Hanover Park police arrested Humberto Rodriguez about 11:43 a.m. after an officer observed him make a minor traffic violation, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.

Rodriguez did not have a valid driver's license, smelled of alcohol and had glassy, watery eyes when the officer spoke to him, Shin said. Rodriguez failed field sobriety tests and declined a breath test, Shin said.

Police recovered an open can of beer on the front seat and also found a can of beer attached to an empty six-ring holder in the back seat, Shin said.

Rodriguez's convictions include supervision for DUI in 1986, one year of probation for a DuPage County DUI and one year of conditional discharge and six months in jail for two DUIs from 2003, Shin said. Rodriguez was also sentenced to one year in prison in 2005 for driving on a suspended or revoked license, Shin said.

If convicted, Rodriguez, 50, faces up to 15 years in prison.
