Wind chill advisory issued for suburbs

A wind chill advisory is in effect for the Chicago area through noon today, officials from the National Weather Service said.

Temperatures will top out at 9 degrees this afternoon, the National Weather Service said. Currently, temperatures are hovering between -3 degrees and 1, officials said.

The wind chills are expected to make it feel like it's -15 to -20, officials said.

At these temperatures, officials said frostbite can start in 30 minutes on exposed skin.

Frostbite and hypothermia can occur if precautions are not taken. People are urged to wear a hat and gloves if out in the cold.
