West Chicago Police Arrest Suspect for Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon

West Chicago, Illinois: January 15, 2016 - On Friday, January 15, 2016, officers of the West Chicago Police Department executed a search warrant at 404 E. Blair Street, West Chicago. The warrant was the result of a month-long investigation into suspected criminal activity around the home, including a shooting which occurred on December 20, 2015.

As a result of the search, a .40 caliber handgun and ammunition were recovered in the home. One of the residents, 28-year old Salvador Perez, was taken into custody. Investigators determined Perez is a previously convicted felon. He was ultimately charged with Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, a class 3 felony. If convicted, Perez may face between two and ten years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

"This investigation was the result of tenacity and excellent police work on the part of all of our officers", said West Chicago Police Chief Michael Uplegger. "I am proud of the work they did in taking a criminal off the street and helping a neighborhood regain the safety we all deserve".

Perez will be transported to the DuPage County Jail to await a bond hearing.
