Open U.S. borders to all immigrants

The recent and ongoing controversy regarding immigrants from Syria and other Mideast nations again points to the total change needed to our immigration policies.

As often stated by President Obama, we are a nation of immigrants and our basic policy as implied on the Statue of Liberty is to accept all who come to our shore. Therefore, it seems obvious that we could end the discourse and be consistent with our principles by simply eliminating the naturalization and immigration department and allow anyone and everyone freedom to enter and reside in the country without any restrictions. No more screening of individuals or groups of any kind. No more requirements, quotas or limitations on the number or source of anyone immigrating to the United States of America.

This would resolve all the current issues regarding illegal immigrants and refugees; there simply would be no such thing as an illegal immigrant and all immigrants would be admitted freely. This new policy would have the added benefit of saving millions if not billions of dollars spent in the immigration and naturalization department and branches all over the U.S. They could all be fired immediately. It would also save the cost of the proposed fence along the border with Mexico.

Now we could finally attain the benefits of huge numbers of immigrants from all over the globe bringing all their skills, knowledge, and diverse cultures and religions. This could and should be implemented immediately by executive order of President Obama. The legislative branches of the government should have no say in this matter.
