Breaking news (not!): Winter is here
Winter is here.
After an unusually warm start, we can expect to see more normal winter conditions in the coming days.
This morning, snow blanketed the area, causing a messy commute. The snow is expected to taper off so tonight's drive home should be much easier. Forecasters are calling for temperatures to drop after the snow clears out.
On New Year's Eve, temperatures will hover in the mid to upper 20s. And we might see a few flurries.
New Year's Day will be sunny, but temperatures will start out in the teens and barely clear 20.
Temperatures will warm a bit into the 30s Saturday and our next chance for snow is Sunday.

"We're doing this for the kids, so they don't have to walk on the street," Elgin city employee Ed Kurth said Wednesday as he cleared the sidewalk along Wing Street. After this week's wet and icy snowfall froze, Kurth said workers need a tractor to plow through the frozen mess.
