Frosty 5K precedes Frosty Fest celebration

Before West Chicago's annual Frosty Fest celebration starts on Saturday, the Frosty 5K Run/Chilly 1-Mile Walk will take place at 2 p.m. at the Wayne and Helen Fox Community Center, 306 Main St.

All participants run the streets of West Chicago in head-to-toe "Frosty" snowman suits and enjoy a post-race dinner by Hawthorn's Backyard BBQ.

The entry fee is $40, with each 5K participant receiving a snowman suit. Chilly 1-Mile participants receive a custom-printed Sportsman knit hat and children younger than 12 a finisher ribbon.

The after-party at the Fox Community Center features a traditional lighting of the tree and photo with Olaf from the Disney movie "Frozen."

The event benefits the Zellmer Wellness Foundation's Juvenile Diabetes Camp for the youth of West Chicago. The Zellmer Wellness Foundation supports education and research related to the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of chronic childhood diseases.

Frosty Fest follows in downtown from 4 to 7 p.m. The free event includes a tree-lighting, Santa and Mrs. Claus, horse-drawn sleigh, live reindeer, crafts, live musical performances. For details, visit westchicago.org.
