The Norris offers four holiday concerts, art exhibit

The Norris Cultural Arts Center today announced a variety of holiday-themed events scheduled from Thanksgiving weekend through early January, including four concerts and an art exhibit.

The Norris' "Music in the Gallery" concert series features two holiday concerts. At 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29, The Norris presents "The Christmas Harp," featuring harpists Kate Cockle and Abby Hughes performing as soloists and as a duet in a concert of classical repertoire and familiar Christmas music.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20, the Irish band, The Ragged Rascals, will perform a concert including traditional Irish music plus Christmas favorites infused with an Irish flavor.

Appropriate for all age groups, both concerts will be presented in The Norris Gallery, with general admission seats priced at $15 or $10 for children under 12. Call (630) 584-7200 or visit www.NorrisCulturalArts.com for tickets and details.

At 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 6, The Norris will host the Fox Valley Concert Band for its annual "Home for the Holidays" concert, featuring a variety of popular holiday classics. The concert will be presented on the stage of the Norris theater and is free of charge. Donations are appreciated. Free refreshments will be served at a post-concert reception in the gallery.

At 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 12, the U.S. Air Force Band of Mid-America Concert Band will present its 2015 Holiday Concert at The Norris. Admission is free, but each audience member needs a ticket. Visit www.NorrisCulturalArts.com or call (630) 584-7200 for tickets. The Air Force band concert is a perennial favorite at The Norris, usually drawing a capacity crowd.

For art lovers, especially those looking for artworks appropriate for holiday gift-giving, The Norris Gallery will host a special exhibit, "The Gift of Art," opening on Friday, Dec. 4, and running through Jan. 10. The show will feature original paintings, drawings and limited-edition prints by three of the area's leading contemporary realist artists, Nick Freeman of St. Charles, Scott Harding of Warrenville, and Terry Walsh of Lombard. All work in the show will be available for purchase, and priced appropriately for holiday gift-giving. A free, public reception will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, providing the public an opportunity to meet the artists. The Norris Gallery is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. Admission and parking are free.

The Norris Cultural Arts Center is at 1040 Dunham Road on the Norris campus between Dunham and Kirk roads, a half-mile north of Main Street (Route 64) on the east side of St. Charles.
