Crystal Lake man accused of intentionally killing kitten

A Crystal Lake man has been charged with intentionally killing a newborn kitten at his home, which is a rescue shelter for cats, police said. Crystal Lake police responded to a domestic disturbance at the home at around 2:30 p.m. Friday, police said. Full story.

Robber strikes at PNC Bank in downtown Elgin

No injuries were reported after a downtown Elgin bank was robbed Monday morning, police said. Police responded about 10 a.m. to a report of a robbery at PNC Bank, 28 N. Grove Ave., Cmdr. Dan O'Shea said in a news release. Full story.

Palin to sign copies of her book in Naperville

Sarah Palin, the first Republican woman to run for vice president, will make a stop Dec. 1 in Naperville — not for a campaign, but to promote a book. In an event sponsored by Anderson's Bookshop, Palin will sign copies of her new title, “Sweet Freedom: A Devotional,” at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Naperville Marriott. Full story.

Lake Zurich band's Paris trip in limbo

In the wake of the terrorist attacks in Paris, the Lake Zurich Unit District 95 school board might reconsider whether to send the Lake Zurich High School band on a planned trip to Paris for a 2017 New Year's Day parade. About 200 band members would travel, along with 12 chaperones and at least two Lake Zurich High instructors, from Dec. 27, 2016, to Jan. 3, 2017. Full story.

Butler, Bulls hold on for 96-95 win over Pacers

Jimmy Butler scored 17 points and played tough defense on Paul George on Indiana's final possession, helping the Bulls hold on for a 96-95 victory over the Pacers on Monday night. It was the Bulls' third straight win, but Derrick Rose left with an ankle sprain. Read Mike McGraw's take here.
