Radtke on a tear for NIU women's volleyall team

Jenna Radtke recently had a nearly perfect attacking weekend for Northern Illinois women's volleyball.

Her efforts didn't go unnoticed.

The former Stevenson standout was named offensive player of the week in the Mid-American Conference's West Division.

It is her second honor of the season and the fourth of her career.

At home against Toledo and Ball State, the junior middle blocker finished with 21 kills on 27 swings to post an attacking percentage of .778 and an average of 3.50 kills per set. With 1.17 blocks per set on the weekend as well, Radtke registered 4.58 points per period.

In the weekend opener against the Rockets, she registered 11 kills and a hitting percentage of .647. She followed up with a perfect night offensively as she recorded 10 kills in 10 attacks versus the Cardinals, setting a new single match career-high for 1.000 hitting percentage.

Radtke last earned honors Sept. 15 after hitting .464 and averaging 3.36 kills per set at the Shocker Volleyball Classic in Wichita, Kan.

The junior highlighted her weekend with her first career double-double, recording 16 kills and 10 blocks versus Texas State.

This is the fifth time in the eight week Mid-American Conference season that the Huskies have won player of the week honors. NIU has earned accolades in six of 11 weeks this season.

Women's cross country

Lewis redshirt senior Kristen Bonsor of Antioch claimed All-Midwest Region accolades for the third year in a row as she finished 18th (21:32.94) at the 6K NCAA Midwest Regional, hosted by Southern Indiana and the Evansville Sports Corporation, at the Angel Mounds Cross Country Course.

For the second time in three years, Lewis advanced to the NCAA Division II Championships with a third-place finish.

• Augustana freshman Laura McNair (Lake Zurich) was the Vikings' top finisher with an 85th-place finish (23:19) at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island. The Vikings scored 526 points to place 20th in the 40-team field

Men's soccer

North Central College sophomore defender/midfielder Jon Borzick and sophomore defender Karl Bappert (Warren) were named second all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin team.

Borzick played in 16 games and started 14. Borzick took 15 shots with 6 on goal.

Bappert played in 19 games and started 16. He recorded 3 goals with 1 assist with 7 total points

Libertyville signees

Libertyville's Macey Neubauer made her commitment to the Miami of Ohio swimming team while the Wildcats' Allison Watson signed her letter of intent to play volleyball at Loyola.

Men's Cross Country

Butler senior Erik Peterson (Barrington) finished third in an all-conference and personal best time of 22:50 in the 8,000 meters at the Big East Conference Meet, helping Butler to a fourth-place finish. He also placed fifth in the Great Lakes Regional with a personal best time of 30:31 in the 10,000 meters advancing to nationals on Nov. 20 in Louisville, Ky. In the same regional, Butler sophomore Billy Thomas (Hoffman Estates) finished 22nd in a personal best time of 24:23.

• Missouri senior Dan Roe (Buffalo Grove) finished in 36th place in a personal best time of 24:39 in the 8000 meters at the SEC Conference Meet, helping Missouri to a sixth-place finish.

• Iowa senior Anthony Gregorio (Palatine) finished in 46th place in a personal best time of 24:33 in the 8,000 meters at the Big 10 Conference Meet.

• Augustana senior Ethan Koch (Prospect) was 31st with a time of 24:56.1 at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional at Saukie Golf Course. Koch and the Vikings earned a spot in the 32-team NCAA Division III National Championship field to be held on Nov. 21 in Oshkosh, Wis.

Rugby

The Northwest Woodsmen and Arlington Stallions rugby clubs will host the seventh annual Turkey Bowl to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society on Saturday, Nov. 28.

The touch rugby game is co-ed, all ages, and open to the public. All donations made at the event, as well as proceeds from T-shirt sales, will go to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

“This is a fun day for rugby players of all skill level to come out and support this important cause simply by playing the game we love” said event organizer Lou Raymond. “This devastating disease has touched the lives of people we love and we are honored to be able to use this event to help raise awareness and provide some of the funds necessary for the fight against leukemia and other blood related cancers.”

The game will take place at Recreation Park in Arlington Heights (121 N. Douglas Avenue) from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Teams will be formed by age, experience and ability depending on attendance. Non-players are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Following the game, guests are invited to stay for a hot dog social. Registration for this event takes place at 10 a.m.

35th Turkey Trot

Pre-registration for the 35th annual Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning at Harper College is being accepted through 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The event will include a 2-mile run at 8 a.m. and 5-mile run at 9 a.m. The Drumstick Dash fun run for children ages 10 years and under will be held at 10 a.m.

In honor of the 35th anniversary of this long-standing community event, Turkey Trot will be enhanced by a variety of contests and special opportunities in 2015, both before and during Thanksgiving morning.

Turkey Trot registration can be completed online or the registration form can be downloaded from the Palatine Park District website, palatineparks.org.
