Grayslake historical program

The Grayslake Historical Society will host a program Wednesday, Nov. 11, tracing the history of the Sears mansion and The Country Squire restaurant in the Wildwood and Grayslake area. "Catalogues to Cuisine" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room of the Grayslake Heritage Center, 164 Hawley St., Grayslake, by local historians of the Grayslake Historical Society. This is the Sears Story, a story of a family whose roots were in Minnesota and were blacksmiths, the story of a family mansion that became a well-known upscale restaurant at routes 120 and 45 in Grayslake. Much of the Sears property became the Wildwood subdivision. Along the way, a large catalog business was founded and Grayslake roots were established. Before the beautiful country home was demolished, it was the setting of memorable weddings and other events. It hosted celebrities who favored the food and ambience. After the presentation, the audience will be invited to share their personal experiences of eating at the Country Squire. The program is free and refreshments will be served.
