No explosives found after bomb threat at Glendale Heights school

No explosives were found after police searched a Glendale Heights elementary school that received a bomb threat Thursday morning, authorities said.

Classes, which were canceled Thursday, will resume Friday morning at Americana School on President Street, police said.

Police received a report of the threat before classes around 7:40 a.m. Thursday. Staff members working in the school received the original threat, contacted authorities and evacuated the building, police said. All arriving teachers and students were moved to Glendale Lakes Golf Course and later transferred to Glenside Middle School.

Queen Bee Elementary District 16 officials used an automated messaging system to contact parents and ask them to pick up their students.

Students who were not picked up remained with their teachers and principal at Glenside and were dismissed at their normal schedule.

Police worked with the DuPage County Bomb Squad and an explosive detection K-9 unit from the U.S. Marshalls Service to search the school.
