Carmel Catholic falls short in 3 sets

Erin Taylor and Elizabeth Tworek each had 12 kills, but Carmel Catholic's girls volleyball team fell to visiting St. Viator 25-12, 10-25, 27-25 in East Suburban Catholic Conference action Tuesday night.

Carmel (13-7, 0-4) also got 33 assists from Grace Butler, 24 digs from Makenzie Feeney and 18 digs from Tworek. Butler and Cate Halverson had 2 blocks apiece.

"We came out flat in Set 1 but kept it together and rallied in the second to force a third," Carmel coach Dave Pazely said. "Some untimely errors cost us some critical points, but we kept battling back and forth."

Down 24-22 in the third, Carmel went up 25-24, only to fall short.

"We had our chances but didn't finish them off," Pazely said. "Both teams had good and sloppy moments and both teams suffered some questionable calls, but in the end we just didn't execute our opportunities and our errors cost us the win."

Crystal Lake Central d. Grayslake North: The Knights lost 25-15, 25-17 in Fox Valley Fox action, despite Madison Helm's 4 kills and 4 blocks.

Taylor Johnston and Kendall Buchman had 11 and 10 digs, respectively, for Grayslake North.

"(We) played tough defense and served well," Knights coach Jim Sarver said, "but were defeated by a tough CLC team."
