Girls volleyball: St. Charles North 2nd at Wheaton Classic
The St. Charles North girls volleyball team had an impressive weekend at the Wheaton Classic, finishing 4-1 for second place behind Benet.
On Wednesday, the North Stars beat Naperville Central 25-17, 25-19 and then Wheaton Warrenville South 25-11, 25-10. Saturday, the Stars began tournament play taking down Wheaton North 25-20, 26-24, Neuqua Valley 25-12, 25-18, and finally losing a tough 3-set match to Benet in the championship 25-18, 23-25, 17-25.
Claire Anderson had 52 kills and 8 aces for the weekend, while Daley Krage had 43 kills, 2 aces, and 25 digs. Jaclyn Taylor fed the offense with 107 assists and added in 13 kills of her own, while Sam Lappin tallied 42 digs for SCN (15-2).
Krage and Taylor were named to the all-tournament team.
At Westminster Christian: Elgin took first place in the Silver Division of the Westminster Christian tournament Saturday, going 4-1 on the day.
The Maroons (8-12) defeated Elgin Academy, Westminster, Schaumburg Christian and Chicago U-High and played to a 1-1 draw with Walther Christian. Leading Elgin on the day were Emily Huprich (15 aces, 33 digs, 71 assists, 17 kills, 5 blocks), Karen Aguiree (47 digs, 5 aces, 5 kills), Emma Sirridge (19 digs, 20 kills, 10 blocks, 6 aces), Elena Silva (4 aces, 37 digs, 13 kills) and Alisha Panthier (21 kills, 21 blocks).
