Septemberfest begins with ex-Journey singer; Taste of Schaumburg next

Great music, food, carnival rides and even late-summer weather greeted the thousands of people who attended Septemberfest on Saturday in Schaumburg.

Steve Augeri, the former lead singer of Journey, and his band headlined Saturday's music on the main stage.

Marcey Zajac of Streamwood has been coming to the festival every year for almost 30 years.

"It's awesome and always a lot of fun," says Zajac, who attended the festival as a kid and now brings her own children to the event. "It's absolutely one of the best festivals around."

While the festival continues through Monday, Sunday will be the final day of the Taste of Schaumburg, which features 21 restaurants. The main stage will feature shows by country star Mark Chestnutt and Chicago area cover band The Neverly Brothers. The festival will kick off Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Robert O. Atcher Municipal Center grounds, at 101 Schaumburg Court. The festival is free.
