Dundee Rotary Club awards $40,000 in student scholarships

The Dundee Township Rotary Club recently awarded $40,000 in scholarships to 27 students residing in Dundee Township who attend Dundee-Crown High School in Carpentersville, Harry D. Jacobs High School in Algonquin, Hampshire High School, St. Edward Central Catholic High School in Elgin, Marian Central Catholic High School in Woodstock, and Elgin Academy.

Since 1981, the club has awarded $755,400 in scholarships to area students.

"We have significantly increased the number of students and scholarship dollars this year with appreciation to our generous donors," said Dr. Melisa Rothenberger, chairwoman of the Dundee Township Rotary Club scholarship committee. "Our club also raises funds throughout the year to help us sustain this honored tradition of giving back to local student achievers."

This year's scholarship recipients are:

• Margaret Veltri, Elgin Academy, $3,000 Harvey & Ethel Daeumer Memorial Scholarship;

• Lena Hemmer, Dundee-Crown High School, $3,000 Stig P. Orum Memorial Scholarship;

• Darwin Gutierrez, Jacobs High School, $2,500 Otto Engineering Scholarship;

• Clarissa Barrera, Dundee-Crown High School, $2,000 EFS Foundation Scholarship;

• Amalia Woolf, Dundee-Crown High School, 1,500 EFS Foundation Scholarship;

• Jessica Stiefer, Dundee-Crown High School, $1,500 EFS Foundation Scholarship;

• Hallie Aylesworth, Jacobs High School, $1,500 Bruce David Memorial Scholarship;

• Lauren Van Vlierbergen, Jacobs High School, $2,000 Grainger Foundation Scholarship;

• Jenna Olson, Dundee-Crown High School, $1,500 Allan Treml Rotary Interact Scholarship;

• Jacqueline Guerrero, Dundee-Crown High School, $2,000 EFS Foundation Scholarship;

• Shannon Jameson, Jacobs High School, $1,000 John Brittain Memorial Scholarship;

• Lisa Jaskowiak, Dundee-Crown High School, $1,500 Harvey & Ethel Daeumer Memorial Scholarship;

• Katalina Erbes, Dundee-Crown High School, $1,500 EFS Foundation Scholarship;

• Kelsey Martin, Dundee-Crown High School, $1,000 Bob Morency Memorial Scholarship;

• Riley Bernardi, Jacobs High School, $1,000 Dundee Lions Phyllis Connelly Memorial Scholarship;

• Bryan Dudek, Hampshire High School, $1,500 EFS Foundation Scholarship;

• Emil Mrzlak, Jacobs High School, $1,000 Loretta Sprigings Memorial Scholarship;

• Madelyn Lanham, Jacobs High School, $1,500 Harvey & Ethel Daeumer Memorial Scholarship;

• Kimberly Skvarla, Dundee-Crown High School, $1,000 Dundee Township Visitor's Center Scholarship

• Samir Khowaja, Jacobs High School, $1,000 Bob Morency Memorial Scholarship;

• Christopher Kelly, St. Edward Central Catholic High School, $1,000 Dundee Rotary Foundation Scholarship;

• Erin McCoy, Marian Central Catholic High School, $1,000 Emerson Crocker Memorial Fine Arts Scholarship;

• Kelsea Nolan, Dundee-Crown High School, $1,000 Bob Morency Memorial Scholarship;

• Luis Paredes, Dundee-Crown High School, $1,000 Dundee Rotary Foundation Scholarship;

• Victoria Solis, Dundee-Crown High School, $1,000 Dundee Rotary Foundation Scholarship.
