Crystal Lake man, 44, dies after struck by Metra train

A 44-year-old Crystal Lake man has died after he was struck early Saturday morning by an eastbound Metra train near the Pingree Road station in Crystal Lake, authorities said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene at 6:38 a.m., the McHenry County coroner's office said.

Toxicology tests and an examination will be done Monday, according to a statement by the coroner's office.

The man, a pedestrian, was hit by train No. 700 on the railroad tracks behind 265 Exchange Drive in Crystal Lake, authorities said.

Metra reported extensive delays on the Northwest line Saturday morning.

Train No. 700, scheduled to arrive in Chicago at 7:37 a.m., was canceled, and Metra sent another one to accommodate passengers traveling inbound from Pingree Road to Chicago.

The coroner's office is investigating the death with Crystal Lake police.
