Congratulations to the Schaumburg High School marching band on its invitation to perform at the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans next New Year's Day.
The band will be among several invited to play during the halftime show of this much watched college bowl game.
Vincent Inendino, who's been the band's director for six years, will lead a group of 150 students to New Orleans to rehearse and then perform as a part of a combined band. They will tour the storied city during their free time.
"The Saxon Marching Band is the largest student organization at Schaumburg High School, comprised of approximately 250 woodwind, brass, percussion, and guard members," Inendino wrote. "The SMB performs at all home football games and the Schaumburg Septemberfest Parade, with regular performances throughout the Chicagoland area, including local university high school band days and the Columbus Day Parade in downtown Chicago."
It won't be the Saxons' first time performing in a bowl game. The band most recently traveled to the Outback Bowl in Tampa, Florida, in January 2014, where they earned recognition for concert band, jazz band and marching band performances, Inendino said.
