Incumbents clinch MCC spots

McHenry County College voters opted for experience in Tuesday's election.

Incumbents Ron Parrish and Michael Smith garnered 9,757 and 9,068 votes, respectively with all precincts counted. Challenger Scott Summers, a former trustee, had 6,795 votes and newcomer Jeff Hill had 5,758, according to unofficial results.

Two 6-year seats were open on the college board.

A separate contest for one, 4-year position showed candidate Karen Tirio as the clear winner with 10,694 votes while hopeful Matthew Hardt garnered 5,707.

Issues in the election included tuition, the college's completion rate, building public/private partnerships, and offering more online classes.
