Endorsements: Klicka, Doherty, Tenuta, Murphy for Mount Prospect parks

Four commissioners will be elected to the Mount Prospect Park District board this spring, a time of relative peace on the board. The renovations to the golf course are complete, and the biggest issues now facing the park district are how aggressively to repair older facilities.

The three commissioners running for re-election have shown an equal interest in recreational opportunities for the whole park district, as well as prudent fiscal responsibility.

Therefore, we endorse Bill Klicka of Des Plaines, who has been on the board since 1995; Tim Doherty, of Des Plaines, first elected in 2001 and Lisa Tenuta, of Mount Prospect, who joined the board in 2011.

Two other residents also are running - Edward A. Gudas, of Des Plaines and Michael L. Murphy, of Mount Prospect.

Both display a genuine interest in the future of the park district and speak knowledgeably about past and present issues. Both have good community credentials.

We favor Murphy, who started attending park board meetings in 2014, even before he filed to run for the board. He has coached football, baseball and wrestling in local organizations, including Mount Prospect. He is endorsed.
