Geneva man guilty of murdering wife, staging her death

A jury last night found Geneva man Shadwick King guilty of strangling his wife in July 2014 and dumping her body on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks in Geneva. Prosecutors say King, 47, killed his wife, Kathleen, 32, in a jealous rage during the early morning hours of July 6 and staged her body to make it look like she was out running when she died. Naperville bicyclist seriously injured in crash

A bicyclist was seriously injured last night after being a hit by a Chevrolet Express van in Naperville, police said. The crashed happened in the intersection of 75th Street and Modaff Road at about 4:45 p.m., Naperville police said in a news release. Full story.

Gurnee Wal-Mart shoppers sickened by unknown chemical

An unknown type of chemical may have been released at Wal-Mart in Gurnee Monday night, mildly sickening five people. Gurnee firefighters responded to the store just before 8 p.m. and treated five people who were complaining of coughing and trouble breathing, officials said. Full story.

Lawsuit seeks to stop Elgin Tower Building plan

The owner of Elgin's Gasthaus Zur Linde bar has filed a lawsuit that could jeopardize plans to redevelop the downtown Tower Building. The Gasthaus is just down the street from the iconic, historic 15-story building at 100 E. Chicago St. The lawsuit claims the city is illegally spot zoning and violated municipal code when it approved plans to turn the vacant office building into 45 apartments. Full story.

Mount Prospect agency employee charged with sexual assault of teen

An employee of a social service agency in Mount Prospect was ordered yesterday by a judge to be held on a $225,000 bail over charges that he sexually assaulted a teenage volunteer earlier this month. Ricky Fecht, 56, of unincorporated Cook County, worked as a program specialist for Northwest Compass, a nonprofit that provides housing, child care assistance, job training and food through its pantry.
