Five fall ill at Gurnee Wal-Mart

An unknown chemical might have been released at Wal-Mart in Gurnee Monday night, fire officials said after five people fell ill.

Gurnee firefighters responded to the store just before 8 p.m. and treated five people who were complaining of coughing and trouble breathing, Gurnee Battalion Chief John Skillman said. All five were released at the scene.

“We went inside the store with meters and walked the entire store and couldn't smell anything either,” Skillman said. “Nothing was found.”

Police continue to investigate.
