It's March Makeover Madness at Algonquin Commons

If you're ready to shed winter, and get a new image for spring, you may want to head to the Algonquin Commons outdoor mall along the Randall Road corridor this month.

The mall is hosting a March Makeover Madness contest.

They are asking people who feel they are in need of a makeover, or who have a loved one that could use a makeover, to plead their case on why they deserve it.

All you need to do is tell mall officials why you're in need of makeover, or why your loved one is in need of a makeover, and show a before picture.

You can do this either by posting on the mall's Facebook page at www.facebook.com/AlgCommons or by visiting the Algonquin Commons Guest Services office and entering your story.

The four people attached to the winning stories will receive a new outfit from Algonquin Commons, and they'll also get a beauty makeover.

Kim Gilmore of Gilmore Marketing Concepts Inc., which is heading up the contest for the mall, said it was so much fun last year to see all of the entries, and to see the makeovers.

She said the winners got their makeovers last year on the Friday before Mother's Day.

It was a great day, she said, and all of the winners went out for a night on the town with their spouses once they were all "dolled up."

The contest runs through March 31, so get your entries in soon.

Spring Break fun:

If you're not headed anywhere warm for spring break, take heart - you can have some fun right here along the Randall Road corridor with chocolate.

Morkes Chocolates at 2755 W. Algonquin Road, just west of Randall Road, is hosting a Fun Week from March 23 to 27.

One of the highlights includes Walk in Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., when you can stop into the Algonquin store and make your own chocolate creations to eat and share. You'll get to use various types of chocolates and make different creations in molds and more.

There also is a class for adults on Monday, a teenager class on Tuesday, a Candy Camp on Thursday and Chocolate Easter House fun on Friday.

All the events start at different times, and have various prices for the chocolate.

For information call Morkes at (847) 458-8585.

"Edmund Unravels":

The Barnes and Noble along Randall Road in Geneva is hosting a special storytime Saturday centered around the popular book "Edmund Unravels."

The event begins at 11 a.m. at the store, 102 Commons Drive.

It will center on the debut picture book, which stars a little ball of yarn that can't resist adventures, and all of the tugs, twists and turns that go along with it.

The event is free and open to the public.
