Jets sign former Seahawks guard James Carpenter

NEW YORK (AP) - The New York Jets have signed former Seattle Seahawks guard James Carpenter.

Carpenter was a first-round draft pick out of Alabama in 2011 by the Seahawks, and moved from right tackle to left guard in the NFL. He started 13 regular-season games last year, missed three games with an injured ankle, and returned for Seattle's playoff games.

The signing Wednesday gives the Jets depth on their offensive line, and the 26-year-old Carpenter is likely to move into the starting spot at left guard. Oday Aboushi and Brian Winters, who have started there the last two seasons, will be in the for the right guard spot. Willie Colon has been the Jets' right guard the past two seasons, but is a free agent and not expected to be re-signed.
