Endorsement: Czarnecki for Carol Stream clerk

In what is likely to be one of the season's quietest elections, voters in Carol Stream on April 7 will choose a new village clerk from between two-term incumbent Beth Melody and challenger Laura Czarnecki.

The clerk's job is to keep records of village board and plan commission proceedings, publish resolutions and ordinances passed by the board, and attest to village contracts, licenses, permits and other documents. It's an important job but one that doesn't lend itself to a great deal of political intrigue.

The Carol Stream's clerk's office has operated well under Melody's leadership but this time around Czarnecki is a formidable challenger whose background as a stenographer will serve her well in the role and who has been a notary public since 1994. She has been active in the community in a number of volunteer roles and has the endorsement of at least four sitting village board members - unusual for a challenger in a race such as this. If elected, she says she'll look at the office's operations with a fresh eye and a desire to take better advantage of technology and social media. Czarnecki is endorsed.
