Schaumburg Park District to renovate Community Recreation Center
Work will begin in March on a six-month, $2.5 million renovation of the Schaumburg Park District's 36-year-old Community Recreation Center at 505 N. Springinsguth Road.
The enhancement and expansion, which the park districft says is driven by a citizen survey, will include 22,000 square feet of new and renovated program and fitness space.
The project is being built from funds in the district's capital budget and will require no tax increase, officials said.
The expansion of the center's first floor and repurposing of the current racquetball courts will result in the construction of an aerobics studio, a TRX suspension training studio, a personal training area and two before- and after-school program classrooms with restrooms.
Though there will no longer be racquetball courts at the center, they will continue to be available at Schaumburg Tennis Plus.
The center will never completely close during construction, and efforts will be made to reduce any disruptions to programs and services, according to a news release sent by the park district.
Windows on exterior walls will allow for more natural light, while the addition of interior windows will create a more open feel throughout the center.
Other additions include a new elevator at the fitness center, renovated hallways and senior program space, and energy-efficient LED lighting and heating, ventilation and air conditioning in all new rooms.
Though the current outdoor playground will be converted into indoor program space, a new playground will be built on the north side of the center.
