Questions & Answers

Why are you running for this office, whether for re-election or election the first time? Is there a particular issue that motivates you, and if so, what is it?

I have been an active library patron for many many years in the various communities where I have lived. I have also worked at a public library for 12+ years. I want to help keep libraries vibrant, useful and an integral part of everyone's life, no matter what their age.

If you are an incumbent, describe your main contributions. Tell us of important initiatives you've led. If you are a non-incumbent, tell us what contributions you would make.

Do you have a library card? How long have you had it? How often do you use it?

Yes. I have had a library card since I was three years old, and I use it very often, sometimes 2-3 times a week.

Space is an issue at many libraries. If that's the case at your library, would your solution be to expand the physical plant or make room by doing away with parts of the collection that technology has made less critical? Explain.

While technology is important, there should still be room in the library for useful and popular items in the collection. Many people rely on the library for books, magazines and newspapers -- as well as music CDs, DVDs and audiobooks -- in addition to electronic resources.

What impact have economic and technological changes had on libraries? How does a library remain relevant? How should its role in the community change?

The library should be a place to gain information, whether by relying on the expertise of well-trained staff, from the materials the library holds (either on the shelf or online), or from thought-provoking, informative programming and classes (including classes on technology).
