Elgin man sentenced to 3.5 years prison for attacking ex-girlfriend
An Elgin man accused of sexually assaulting, kicking and choking a former girlfriend he thought was pregnant has pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison, according to prosecutors and court records.
Emmanuel Sanchez, 23, of the 600 block of Raymond Street, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated domestic battery in exchange for Kane County prosecutors dismissing other, more severe charges.
Sanchez pleaded guilty last week and the sentence will be entered on March 13, when his regular attorney is present, prosecutors said.
Sanchez' defense attorney, Brandon McNulty, did not return a phone message.
Sanchez has been held at the Kane County jail on $1 million bail since his December 2013 arrest.
According to Elgin police, Sanchez and the victim had dated but had been broken up for several months. The two saw each other, and Sanchez took the victim's phone after she told him she thought she was pregnant.
So she went to Sanchez' apartment to get the phone, and tried to leave when Sanchez said he didn't have it, police said.
Sanchez was accused of pulling her by the arm and throwing her on a couch, pulling her hair when she tried to run to the door, the report said.
Sanchez choked her until she almost lost consciousness, sexually assaulted her and kicked her in the stomach several times, police said.
When the victim asked why Sanchez was kicking her, he said, "Just to make sure," a police report said.
Prosecutors said the victim was not pregnant.
Sanchez must serve 85 percent of his prison term.
