Police: Man sexually assaulted, strangled and kicked woman

Elgin man, 21, was being held on $1 million bail

A 21-year-old Elgin man is accused of beating and sexually assaulting his former girlfriend Sunday, according to Elgin police and court records.

Emmanuel Sanchez, of the 600 block of Raymond Street, faces up to 30 years in prison if convicted of aggravated criminal sexual assault.

Sanchez also is accused of aggravated domestic battery and unlawful restraint, both felonies, along with two misdemeanor domestic battery charges, according to police.

According to an Elgin police report, the two had dated but broke up several months ago.

They saw each other about a week ago, and police said Sanchez took the woman's phone after she told him she thought she was pregnant.

She went to his apartment at about 2 p.m. Sunday to get the phone, and tried to leave when he said he did not have it, the report said.

Sanchez pulled her inside by her arm and threw her on a couch. He yanked her by the hair between five and 10 times when she tried to run to the door, strangled her until she almost lost consciousness and then sexually assaulted her, police said.

Sanchez also punched and kicked her several times in the stomach, and when she asked why, he replied, “Just to make sure,” the report said.

“(The victim) believes he was saying this because Sanchez wanted to ensure that she was not going to be pregnant,” the officer wrote in his report.

Sanchez was questioned later that day and denied attacking the woman, the report said.

He was being held at the Kane County jail on $1 million bail, according to the sheriff's office. His next court date is Dec. 13.
