Schaumburg drug dealer gets 24-year prison sentence

A Schaumburg man, convicted last month of the manufacture and delivery of heroin, cocaine and marijuana, was sentenced to a total of 24 years in prison.

Jermaine Cooper, 33, was sentenced Tuesday to 24 years for delivering heroin and cocaine and five years for delivering marijuana, records show. Cook County judge Bridget Hughes ordered the sentences be served at the same time.

Cooper, who was on parole for a 2006 drug conviction at the time of his arrest, was also ordered to pay $3,904 in fines. He received credit for 214 days in custody, records show.

On March 26, 2014, Hoffman Estates police responded to a call of a suspicious man in the vicinity of the Poplar Creek Forest Preserve, prosecutors said during Cooper's bail hearing.

By the time police arrived, the man was gone. However, officers recovered a plastic bag with 50 grams of heroin, 20 grams of cocaine, five grams of marijuana and other controlled substances.

A witness later identified Cooper, whom police were investigating on another matter.
