Give Obama credit for positive events

In reading Richard Olhava's letter of Jan. 12, I think a response is definitely in order. One does not need to be a bleeding-heart liberal to admit to him or herself the Barack Obama has accomplished much with a house against him during the last four years, and yes he has moved us along to think differently.

Instead of a Bush-Cheney war that spawned ISIS, he is now talking with Cuba and Iran. It appears that to Obama, no matter what a country's ideology or governmental makeup, they are a part of the world and should be treated as such.

Other accomplishments like the Affordable Care Act, I look at it positively - 10 million and counting now have health insurance and the costs are coming down.

The stock market is as high as it's ever been and gas prices are the lowest in years. The auto industry is in wonderful shape and once our Iowa farmers start shipping wheat to Cuba, business in general will increase.

Most of us are second- or third-generation Americans. Why do our representatives forget their own history? Yes, immigration is important - the dream to come to America must continue.

Finally, I am thankful for his greatest gift of all to me and most Americans. We are a country without a war. Yes, the munitions industry might suffer, but our service men and women will spend their lives on safe ground. For that I am thankful.
