Ex-teacher from Naperville held on sex charges

A 27-year-old Naperville man and former Wilmington High School teacher and girls basketball coach is being held on $1 million bail in Will County, accused of molesting a female student.

Jonathan D. Lewis, of the 1500 block of Fairway Drive, is charged with four counts of criminal sexual assault, four counts of child pornography and one count of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, according to Will County state's attorney spokesman Chuck Pelkie.

Wilmington police said they received information from an anonymous tip over the summer that sparked a six-month investigation into the former social studies teacher.

Police said the victim's parents and Wilmington School District 209U were notified immediately of the investigation and the district took action to ensure Lewis would not have any contact with students. Lewis resigned a short time later.

School officials were not immediately available for comment Monday.

A statement released by Wilmington police said the investigation “determined that Lewis committed numerous offenses between March and October of 2014.”

Pelkie said Lewis had a sexual relationship with the student, who was between 13- and 18-years-old, from March through May 2014. Lewis is also accused of taking pornographic photos of the student from May to October 2014.

Lewis is next due in court on Feb. 20 in Will County.
