Pedestrian hit by car in Crystal Lake

A pedestrian had to be taken to the hospital by helicopter after being hit by a car Thursday in Crystal Lake, officials said.

Crews were called to the intersection of Gates Street and Second Street around 1:30 p.m. for the crash, according to a news release.

The initial investigation showed that the vehicle, a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, was traveling southeast on Gates Street when the pedestrian, a 39-year-old Crystal Lake woman, entered into the roadway from the north side of the street, the release said.

The woman was knocked to the pavement and sustained multiple injuries, police said.

She was transported by a Flight for Life-Northern Illinois medical helicopter to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, officials said. An update on her condition was not available Thursday night.

The accident is still under investigation and no citations have been issued yet, police said.
