Advocate Lutheran General receives top nursing honor for third time

Advocate Lutheran General Hospital has once again attained Magnet recognition as part of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Magnet Recognition Program.

This voluntary credential is the highest honor an organization can receive for professional nursing practice. It recognizes the very best in nursing care and professionalism in nursing practices.

"Our nurses are exceptional. They have a tremendous amount of pride in the Magnet recognition," says Rick Floyd, president, Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. "We view the designation as an important message for health care consumers. It says our nursing professionals, in collaboration with physicians and other support staff, are exceeding a very high bar set for quality and safety in this organization."

Magnet recognition is the gold standard for nursing excellence. It has even become one of the criteria for ranking hospitals in U.S. News and World Report's annual "America's Best Hospital's" list. An organization seeking Magnet recognition must provide documented evidence of sustained performance and quality outcomes.

"It is not easy to achieve Magnet status. To achieve it for the third time feels incredible," said Jane Denten, vice president of Nursing and Chief Nursing Officer. "It reflects Advocate Lutheran General Hospital's commitment to delivering superior patient care to each and every patient that comes to our door. Nursing care is at the center of all we do."

Magnet recognition has been shown to provide specific benefits to hospitals and communities by improving patient satisfaction, nursing satisfaction and retention.

Lutheran General Hospital first earned Magnet designation in 2005. It was redesignated in 2009 and now, again, in 2014.

The Magnet Recognition Program, administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, recognizes health care organizations that provide the very best in nursing care and professionalism in nursing practice. The Magnet Recognition Program serves as the gold standard for nursing excellence and provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark for measuring quality of care.
