Wine Tasting Fundraiser to Benefit ICompete Program

The fourth annual ICompete Wine Tasting Fundraiser will be from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 16, at Pop's Bar and Grill, 19 N. Bothwell St., Palatine.

ICompete is a collaborative partnership with the Palatine Park District, Palatine Opportunity Center, Palatine High School, Palatine Township Elementary District 15, Palatine Police Department, Palatine Township and Buehler YMCA. ICompete programs include the after school club, summer athletic clinics, dance classes, golf, teen nights, summer camp and the Pirate Passport program.

The mission of ICompete is to introduce underserved families to athletics, arts and academics by breaking down the barriers of access. The goal is to stimulate interest, provide academic support and increase opportunities to participate in organized sports, clubs or community programs.

Tickets are $25 in advance, $30 at the door for tastings, pizza and wings. The event, for those 21 and older, will also include raffle prizes and a 50/50 raffle. To purchase tickets, or for more information, contact Rachel Lara at (847) 496-6303 or rlara@palatineparks.org.

"ICompete has evolved tremendously since it began in 2006," said Cristina Correa, community outreach coordinator, Palatine Park District. "ICompete programs allow participants to develop the skills to make safe choices, get involved in their school and community, and learn how to be competitive in this complex world. Proceeds from the annual Wine Tasting Fundraiser allow us to achieve these goals."
