Lots to love around town ... except bumbling Bears

It's always cold.

It gets dark at 3:26 p.m.

The Bears bite.

What in the name of John Coughlin is going on around here?

But alas:

Call me a cockeyed optimist, but as dreary as this Bears stuff is — and it's Neill Armstrong dreary — there's a lot of good things happening around town these days.

It starts:

With the two tenants of the United Center, both of whom have found their groove and absolutely should be playing well into May … and beyond.

Then you've got the White Sox, who appear all in for next season. And the Cubs, who are getting very, very close.

So in conclusion:

Cheer up, it's gonna get good around here soon.

The Optimist

Just sayin':

Is it me or is this Bears season dragging on more than that bookshelf scene from “Interstellar?”

Seriously, what was that?

The “feels like” equation:

Marc Trestman = Alpo Suhonen

A tweet to love:

CubsJoeMadd Respect 90... going to make daily push for our players to respect that distance. run hard for 90 feet, and the respect will come back to you

BTW:

How great is it hearing all those rumors emanating from the winter meetings?

Answer: Very

Can't wait for it all to kick in next week.

Random thought:

I have never seen a woman driving a used police car.

Hawk thoughts:

• Is there anyone else you'd want with the puck on his stick than Patrick Kane? Soak in what you're watching when it comes to 88 — pretty special stuff.

• The musical chairs involving Rundblad, Clendening and now Dahlbeck points out just what a gem the Hawks have in TvR.

And how much they miss him.

A numbers game:

Could 88-91-23 equal the number of points the line of Kane, Richards and Versteeg ends up with this season?

Heck, yeah.

Things that rock:

NIU football.

California Chrome.

Those Salvation Army ads.

Bear down:

Regardless of how the Bears finish the season, if Marc Trestman is brought back to coach next year, what would your optimism level be?

Thought so.

Not done yet:

If the Bears, who are celebrating the 50th anniversay of drafting Dick Butkus and Gale Sayers, finish with a top-10 pick and Phil Emery is the guy making that pick, what would your optimism level be?

Again, thought so.

Block Party:

1,000 games for Brent Sopel.

Kudos.

No other way to put it:

That was one weird season for Brandon Marshall.
