These managers and coaches can carve up opponents

If there were separate Mount Rushmores for active managers / coaches in each of the four major sports leagues, I think it's fair to say that Chicago right now would be represented on three of them by Tom Thibodeau, Joel Quenneville and Joe Maddon.

That's pretty impressive and absolutely the way it should be for a city like Chicago.

So that leaves …:

The White Sox and the Bears.

I think:

The jury is still out on Robin Ventura.

His “yeah, I'm not sure if I want an extension” thing kind of threw me off, but I respect what he was getting at, and I think he's going to end up being a really, really good manager if he so desires.

As for Marc Trestman?

Yikes.

Forget Mount Rushmore, this guy is one more bad loss away from not only losing the jury, but the team, the city and maybe his job as well.

BTW:

We need more national monuments featuring giant heads carved of stone, right?

And no, I'm not lobbying for myself there.

C'mon:

Is every Bulls game day going to center around whether or not D-Rose can play? If so, they've lost me.

If that cat don't stop it man:

I went back and checked the data, and over the years I've gotten exactly a gazillion emails.

But never — and I mean never — have I received one like the one Hawthorne sent out earlier this week featuring a subject line of:

“FAQ's Regarding Feral Cats at Hawthorne Race Course.”

Where's the buzz?

It's Bears-Packers week, right?

Question:

How in the world did Shields and Yarnell get a network TV show back when there were only three networks?

I heard their names mentioned the other night and it rang the slightest of bells so I checked them out online and … Geesh!

Blackhawks' 1957 sweater:

A classic for the Classic.

The whozee what now?

The Cubs announced Thursday that work crews will temporarily move the historic “Caretaker's House” from Wrigley Field so renovation work can continue.

What?

Tell me I'm not the only one who never knew that house actually existed!

And the winner is:

For best use of a single hand clap in the middle of a song, the award goes to ... “White Horse” by Laid Back.

You know you want to listen now.

Two Breeders' Cup thoughts:

1. Eddie O. deserved waaay more face time on NBC's coverage of the Classic.

2. I know the hourlong broadcast is more about entertainment than the sport itself, but for crying out loud start the race earlier so everyone — including the stewards — isn't rushed into making (bad) decisions should something unforeseen happen.

But that's just what happened in a $5 million race ... just so the network could hurry up and get to an all-new episode of “Law and Order.”

Such a farce.

Fun with Google:

Type in Kris Bryant bat.

Then try 11-year-old Japanese hockey prodigy (video).

What in the name of Lou Manfredini:

Is up with the White Sox and all that hardware? Impressive.

Hockey rules:

“We don't even count those as really being bad injuries.”
