Vernon Hills police say several reports of public indecency under investigation

Vernon Hills police are investigating several reports of public indecency in the past two weeks at various locations in the village.

In each instance, the male driver of a small silver vehicle asked a female for directions. As the women spoke to the driver, each observed the driver rubbing his groin through his pants. Each woman left the area unharmed. The driver was never seen exiting his vehicle, police said.

The offender is described as a male, possibly Hispanic or Asian, late 20s or 30s, short dark hair and stocky build. In each instance, he was driving small, silver, 4-door car. There were no other occupants seen in the car.

One report occurred at 8:45 a.m. Aug. 8, in the area of the 1000 block of Lakeview Parkway. Two others happened about 3 p.m. Aug. 9, near the Vernon Hills Athletic Complex, and one was Aug. 15, near Princeton Court and Brandywine Court in New Century Town.

Each report occurred in or near a park or public area, Police Chief Mark Fleischhauer said.

“Our first concern is for everyone's safety. If someone in a car asks you for directions or any assistance, do not approach the vehicle,” Fleischhauer said.

Anyone who sees a vehicle and subject fitting the description is asked to call 911.
