Wheaton man charged with sexual assault

A 27-year-old Wheaton man is accused of sexually assaulting his ex-girlfriend over the weekend in her Glen Ellyn apartment, police said Monday.

Joseph G. McHale has been charged with one count of criminal sexual assault and one count of aggravated domestic battery, officials said. He is being held on $750,000 bail at the DuPage County jail.

On Saturday morning, a 23-year-old woman reported to police that her ex-boyfriend forced his way into her Glen Ellyn apartment about 8:30 a.m. that day. She said he then hit her and sexually assaulted her.

In a news release, Glen Ellyn police said they found the ex-boyfriend, McHale, at his home in Wheaton. McHale was charged after police consulted with the DuPage County state's attorney's office.

To be released from jail, McHale must post $75,000 as bond.
