Palatine man charged with murder in punching death

A Palatine man accused of throwing an unprovoked punch that fatally injured a 26-year-old man outside a bar is in custody on a newly filed charge of first-degree murder, police said Tuesday. Michael Platt, 35, had been facing a charge of aggravated battery stemming from allegations he struck Ryan Flannigan, also of Palatine, on July 18. Full story.

Man arrested in Round Lake Beach shooting

A Round Lake Beach man on Tuesday was charged in a shooting that injured a 16-year-old boy. Anthony M. Weber, 21, who also had a separate arrest warrant from Wisconsin on domestic battery charges, was arrested about 11:45 a.m. at a home in Janesville, Wisconsin. Full story.

Hoffman Estates man accused of shooting at ex's new boyfriend

Bond was set at $250,000 Tuesday afternoon for a Hoffman Estates man accused of firing his rifle at his ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend near Bensenville. Ted Bukowski, 20, of the 900 block of Evanston Street, is charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm in the direction of a person, reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Man on motorized bike dies after hitting parked car

A 52-year-old man died Sunday night after his motorized bicycle struck a parked car in Waukegan. Jeffrey McLaren, 52, of Waukegan, had been driving north around 9:15 p.m. Sunday when he hit a parked car on the 600 block of Hickory Street, Waukegan police said Tuesday. Full story.

Three injured in Aurora home invasion

Three people were injured early Tuesday when at least four intruders forced their way into an Aurora home early Tuesday. Five family members - including a 5-year-old girl - were inside the home on the 700 block of Fifth Street when at least four masked intruders broke in. Full story.

Just after 1:30 a.m., Starlin Castro's sacrifice fly gave the Cubs a 4-3 win over Colorado in the 16th inning.
