Streamwood parade calls for a party

Editor's note: A previous version of this story indicated the festival ended Saturday. It runs through Sunday night.

The Streamwood Summer Celebration parade, marking the event's 20th anniversary, stepped off at 10:30 a.m. Saturday.

Jocelyn Escobedo of Streamwood had her lawn chair set up early in the morning and said that she was looking forward to seeing the Streamwood Falcons cheerleaders.

“I would like to be in the parade as a cheerleader,” she said.

Heinz and Trish Koch celebrated the parade by throwing their 16th annual party for family and friends.

Trish said the “good food, family and the community” bring them together year after year.

They have a contest where they make circles on the street with their initials inside and wait for the horses in the parade to well … do their business.

The horses failed to drop this year, so the pooper scooper man made a judgment call on where to make the deposit. Trez Norwood of Streamwood won $73 when the manure landed in his circle.

The festival continues until 8 p.m. Sunday at Hoosier Grove Park, 700 W. Irving Park Road, with a carnival, food, entertainment, a business expo, kids crafts and kids activities.

The event is sponsored by the Streamwood Chamber of Commerce, Streamwood Park District and village of Streamwood. More information is at streamwood.org/summercelebration.
