Fire starts in Tower Lakes attic

Wauconda fire officials believe roofers inadvertently started an attic on the 500 block of Leon Drive in Tower Lakes.

Firefighters responded about 4 p.m. Friday. According to firefighters, insulation in the floor of the attic was ignited while contractors were working on the roof.

Fifteen units and 34 firefighters responded to the scene and had the fire, which was confined to the attic space, put out at 5:29 p.m.

The occupants of the home evacuated, and there were no injuries.

Since part of the roof needed to be cut away, the home is not likely to be habitable for the short term. The fire remains under investigation.
