Libertyville elevates, tops Mundelein

Libertyville's boys volleyball team is playing well at the right time of the season.

Marc Laska, Pete Feely, Zac Hauser and Konnor McCormack led a balanced attack, as the Wildcats outlasted host Mundelein 25-18, 21-25, 25-9 in North Suburban Conference action Friday night. Laska slammed 6 kills, Feely posted 7 kills and 5 blocks, Haueser had 5 kills and 9 blocks, and McCormack chalked 6 kills and 4 blocks.

"They guys are playing great," Libertyville coach Jenny Smith said. "Real consistent, energetic and making smart decisions. We finally found our identity as a team and what motivates us. It feels great to be playing well going into the final week before regionals."

The Wildcats' other contributors included Chris Akers (3 kills, 2 aces), Scott Spence (3 kills, 3 blocks), Kyle Winiger (16 assists on 42-of-43 setting), Chris Rill (7 assists), Adam Sachs (8 digs), Sam Kharasch (6 digs, 2 aces) and Elliot Cote (2 aces).

Mundelein (12-17, 4-6) got 7 kills from Kyle Smith and 5 from Sam Nelson. Luke Ramer and Scott Heffernan added 4 and 3 blocks, respectively.

Stevenson d. Antioch: Keenan Herman's 5 kills helped the Patriots win 25-13, 25-10 in North Suburban action.

Grant Maleski added 3 kills and 3 aces for Stevenson (15-18, 4-5), while Jeff Maskalunas totaled 3 kills and 2 aces. Connor Perlin also had 3 kills for the Patriots.

Lake Zurich d. North Chicago: Pat Bush had 19 assists, 4 aces and 3 kills, as the Bears won 25-8, 25-13 to improve to 23-10 and 10-0 in the North Suburban.

Lake Zurich got a team-leading 7 kills from Matt Carmody, while Jon Gaide had 6 kills and 3 blocks. Michael Savio led the Bears with 9 digs and 2 aces.
