Here's what Americans really want

Speaker of the U.S. House John Boehner is convening a special committee to once again investigate events in Bengazi, even though there is no new information. The House could better waste its time once again voting to overturn Obamacare for the 51st - or is it the 52nd or 53rd? - time.

Mr. Boehner and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell are fond of opening many of their remarks with "what the American people want." Well, what the majority of Americans want is a government that passes a minimum wage that guarantees no working person need live in poverty, a guarantee of equal pay for equal work, fair and comprehensive immigration reform, a guarantee that no government will allow laws that restrict the rights of its citizens to vote, a government that protects our future by protecting our environment, and one that provides funds to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure, its roads, bridges and schools.

What Americans want, Mr. Boehner and Mr. McConnell, was stated best by President Abraham Lincoln: "a government of the people, by the people, and for the people."
