Baseball: Fox Valley roundup Friday, May 9
St. Charles North 4, Streamwood 2: The Sabres (6-17, 4-12) saw a 2-run fourth-inning lead fade in the middle innings of an Upstate Eight River loss. Kevin Sodja, Matt Grens and Eric Hamlin belted out 2 hits each, but Zach Pisarek accounted for the Sabres' lone RBI, which came on his double to right field.
Prairie Ridge 9, CL South 3: The Gators' 2-run first inning couldn't hold as the Wolves answered with 1 in the second, 2 in the third and a 5-run fifth inning that capped off a Fox Valley Conference Valley win for the Wolves. Casey Oliver (2-for-3) knocked in both runs for CLS (9-10, 6-7) while John Constantino doubled for the Gators.
Dundee-Crown 6, Johnsburg 3: A 4-run fourth proved to be the difference as the Chargers (11-12, 9-7) won another FVC crossover matchup. Sam Ray had 2 hits, including a 2-run double in the fourth, and 3 RBI. Winning and pitching the complete game was Dan Denz as he gave up 3 runs on 3 hits while tallying 6 strikeouts.
Burlington Central 16, North Boone 1: The Rockets (14-8, 7-2) worked quickly and won in 5 innings in the Big Northern East. Five Rockets had an extra-base hit but Andrew Wiss (3-for-4, 2 2B, HR, 2 RBI, 3 RS) led the way. Brendan Bushy went the distance, allowing just 1 unearned run and struck out 7.
