Westmont Library Board Hires New Director

The Westmont Public Library Board of Trustees voted unanimously at an open meeting on Tuesday, April 29 to appoint Julia Coen as the new permanent library director.

The board of trustees began a search for a permanent director when the previous director, Christine Kuhn, resigned in October 2013 after 12 years of dedicated service. Coen served at the Westmont Public Library as the assistant director and as a reference librarian after receiving her Master's degree in Library and Information Science from Dominican University.

Coen's history of excellent service to the staff and residents of Westmont helped solidify her as the right candidate. "The board is confident that Julia is the best choice for Westmont at this time as we continue with our current strategic plan," said Amy Porter, Board President. "Julia is service-minded, very organized, and a great communicator. She is a natural at building consensus with the staff and reaching out to the village, schools and community. We look forward to working with her for years to come."

High on Coen's list of priorities are remodeling the adult services area to include more community meeting space, implementing self-checkout units for a seamless visitor experience, and opening a digital media lab.

"I am honored to have been selected as the director of the Westmont Public Library and proud to be a part of this talented team," said Coen. "I am looking forward to working with the board, the staff, and the residents to bring the best library service to the community of Westmont."
