Schaumburg budgets for emerald ash borer fight

No sooner did Schaumburg officials budget $1.5 million for continued mitigation of the emerald ash borer infestation this week, than they approved the first work contracts for that goal in 2014-15.

The village will pay $187,280 to Robert Kinnucan Tree Experts in Lake Bluff for treatment through next April of trees that might be saved from the insects. For trees that can't be saved, the village will pay $583,500 to Landscape Concepts of Grayslake for removal services.

Village Manager Brian Townsend said other aspects of the emerald ash borer plan yet to be contracted for the year include tree plantings and other restoration work.
