Frozen hydrants a challenge for crews battling Elburn fire

A fire broke out in a detached garage on the 3900 block of Fabyan Parkway in Elburn Friday night, authorities said.

Six fire departments responded to the blaze about 5:30 p.m.; frozen hydrants posed a challenge for crews battling the fire on the garage’s north side, Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District Lt. Sheri Nielsen said.

“We had a couple of hiccups, but other than that we worked around them,” Nielsen said.

No injuries were reported. It took firefighters nearly two hours to extinguish the flames, Nielsen said.

Damage estimates were not immediately available. No cars were parked inside the garage, which was used for storage materials, Nielsen said.

Elburn & Countryside is investigating the cause.
