Hoffman Estates man pleads guilty to molesting boy

A Hoffman Estates man pleaded guilty to molesting a boy at a South Barrington church, court records show.

Robert Sobczak, 20, was sentenced last month to 24 months probation in exchange for his guilty plea, records show.

Sobczak, a former Willow Creek Church volunteer who cared for children while their parents attended services, molested the boy on Feb. 17, 2013, authorities said. The Cook County state’s attorney’s office announced the charges in May.

Shortly after, Barrington Park District announced that it had terminated Sobczak, who had worked in the district’s before-and-after-school care program since 2012. In an email alert to parents sent last May, Barrington Unit District 220 Superintendent Tom Leonard stated there had been no additional molestation allegations against Sobczak.
