Hoffman Estates teen charged with molesting boy at Willow Creek

A 19-year-old volunteer at Willow Creek Community Church in South Barrington has been charged with molesting an 8-year-old boy back in February, said a spokeswoman for the Cook County state’s attorney.

A Cook County judge ordered Robert Sobczak of Hoffman Estates held on $100,000 bail Saturday following a hearing at Chicago’s George N. Leighton Criminal Court Building at 26th Street and California Avenue.

Sobczak volunteered for a program that cared for special-needs children while their parents attended church services, said state’s attorney spokeswoman Tandra Simonton.

Simonton said the 8-year-old boy was taken on Feb. 17 to a separate room, where he was molested.

A representative from Willow Creek Community Church did not respond to a request for comment.

If convicted of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, Sobczak could face from three to seven years in prison. Probation is also an option.

He next appears in court on May 31.
